WTFLR 31
by Atlas HavenChapter 31
“Are you really approved for divorce after just two weeks?”
“Yes! I have custody, and that man has to pay me alimony and child support every month!”
Kate was so happy, tears welled up in her eyes.
“That’s so great, Kate!”
Yulize exclaimed, happily spreading her arms wide to hug Kate. Caught in the middle, Vendia was embraced by both Kate and Yulize. She was quite flustered, being hugged by the two women who were jumping up and down in joy.
The document she had just seen, now lying on the floor, was definitely a divorce approval. It had the seals of the Imperial Court and the temple, the same as the one she had seen when she divorced Denrose. In the Empire, if a spouse cheats, the other party can file for divorce without the spouse’s consent, and the divorce proceedings can begin with sufficient evidence.
Naturally, with Yulize’s investigation, there was more than enough evidence of Charles’s affair. The divorce application was accepted and submitted to the temple, so now it was a race against time. It usually takes about two months, so Yulize’s knight was assigned to protect Kate and Regen during that time. She had even estimated that it might take a little longer due to the custody issue, but the divorce was approved in just two weeks.
‘And he didn’t even show up once…’
It was unbelievable. When she divorced Denrose, she had to appear at the temple twice and the court once. The divorce was approved in three weeks instead of two months because it was the Calvermer Grand Ducal family. But two weeks? Two weeks, which was shorter than her own divorce?
“What…?”
How could this have happened?
“I’ll work really hard! I’ll work hard to pay you back for the shop expenses and the rent you paid in advance!”
“Haha! Of course. I’ll get it all back, with interest.”
“Yes! You have to get it all back!”
Kate and Yulize held hands and giggled.
It was a joyous occasion, so Vendia, who was awkwardly stuck in the middle, smiled and said to Kate, “Kate. Congratulations on your new beginning.” She was returning the sincere congratulations she had received from Marquess Heden to someone else.
“It’s all thanks to you, Lady Dia. Thank you so much… Thank you, sob… If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t have even thought about starting over with Regen.”
“It’s a happy day, why are you crying! Don’t cry, let’s raise a toast!”
Yulize shouted with a hearty laugh, looking at Kate, who was shedding tears. However, her own eyes were also red.
“She’s right. Don’t cry. It’s a good day. Let’s do better from now on. Oh, by the way. How about we upgrade the shop menu a little more?”
“The menu?”
“Yes. I have something in mind…”
Just then.
“Where is she! This crazy woman, come out right now!”
A voice that broke the atmosphere was heard from outside.
I turned my head to the window and saw Charles, who had forced his way through the fence, walking toward the mansion with a furious stride. A crumpled piece of paper was clenched in his hand. It was obvious. The divorce approval had been delivered to Charles, just as it had been to Kate. He must have been furious that he had to pay alimony, not to mention child support every month.
But how did he find this place?
“M-My Lord. What should we do?”
Chris, who had understood the situation, hurried over and asked. Vendia naturally looked at Kate.
“Kate. Should I get rid of him right away?”
“I want to finish this myself.”
Kate shook her head and answered. Her eyes were unwavering.
“Alright, then let’s go out together. Shasha, I’ll leave Regen with you for a moment.”
“Don’t worry.”
After leaving the sleeping Regen with Shasha, Vendia went outside the mansion with Kate. Yulize, Chris, Yulize’s knight, and Peter all followed behind them.
“This damn woman. I won’t let her get away with this.”
Charles mumbled curses and walked with thudding steps. The bruised area around his eye still throbbed. He had been beaten by his mistress, Vanessa. When Vanessa found out he had a wife and child, she went after him like a cat after a mouse. And then she told him to leave. To get out of her sight and be ready to pay child support.
Not only had he lost his mistress because of that wretched Kate, but his entire life was now on the verge of ruin. The divorce had been approved, and he had to pay alimony and child support every month.
“How dare she, a mere woman, disrespect her husband… Hey, you…!”
Charles, who had been mumbling to himself, discovered Kate, who had come out through the door, and shouted, but then shut his mouth. There were too many people next to Kate. The woman named Dia, the Marquis’s young lady, the gigolo, the strange guy in an apron, and the burly knight who had always blocked him from seeing Kate.
They all looked ready to tear him apart.
“Heh. That bruise looks pretty.”
He was so flustered that he gulped, but then he heard a sneer. It was Dia. The main culprit who had caused all this trouble. Charles knew that this woman was the source of all his problems. She was the one who had given him the free meal voucher to lure him and Vanessa to the restaurant. After all, after that incident, Kate had immediately filed for divorce and was now under this woman’s protection. And that wasn’t all. That gigolo had even lured his mother.
Charles gritted his teeth and glared at Dia as if he wanted to kill her.
“This is all your doing.”
“You know it, so why ask? I heard you couldn’t even show your face in public, but you found your way here just fine?”
“Enough. I have something to say to Kate, so get out of the way. This is a matter between a husband and wife.”
“Husband and wife, my foot. You’re divorced. Can’t you read the words on the paper in your hand? Di.vorce. Ap.pro.val.”
When Dia mocked him, Charles frowned and quickly turned his head to look at Kate.
“Hey. I need to talk to you alone.”
Since he was outnumbered, he had to create a chance for them to be alone.
“Let’s do it here.”
“Dammit! How dare you talk back to me! I said let’s talk, so let’s talk!”
Charles’s anger finally exploded at Kate’s uncooperative and curt response. Was this woman crazy? Who was she to be so nonchalant when she had him by the ankle?
“My Lord. Should I bury him?”
“Oh, well, well. It’s you. I was just looking for you. How dare you deceive my mother?”
Charles’s eyes, burning with rage, now turned to Chris. His mother was bedridden because of this guy. The wives of the married men his mother had met had filed a joint lawsuit against her for adultery. His mother knew she had been played, but she couldn’t forget the gigolo and was pathetically spending her days calling out for her ‘baby.’
“It was your mother who brought gifts to him because she liked him. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, I see.”
“Shut…!”
Charles, who had stepped forward in a fit of rage, stopped in his tracks. The men around Dia had instantly blocked her path. The atmosphere they exuded was hostile. It was as if they would pounce on him as soon as they were given the signal.
Damn, damn…!
He seethed and cursed inwardly in a pathetic manner. There was no point in staying here, so he had no choice but to get to the point from where he was standing.
“I won’t mince words. Don’t think about taking all the alimony and child support, and submit a re-appeal.”
“Why should I? It’s the price of your infidelity.”
“Hey! Are you seriously crazy?”
Charles was dumbfounded. Kate, who couldn’t even stand up straight in front of him before, was now talking back to him. And with an expression he had never seen before. She was looking him straight in the eyes with an upright posture, not a hint of anxiety or timidity.
Could a person change so much? He raised his voice out of the humiliation he was feeling from Kate for the first time.
“Get back to the shop. You have to run it, don’t you! Do you have any idea how much money we’ve lost because the doors have been closed for two weeks because of you?!”
“Is your head just for decoration?”
“Who are you talking to…!”
“That shop is yours, the one you always talked about. It’s your shop with no share of mine. You can take care of it from now on.”
Chuckles.
When Kate finished speaking, everyone around her laughed at Charles with a sense of satisfaction. His body trembled with humiliation.
How dare she humiliate me like this? I brought her in even though she had nothing and no education…!
“Do your best. You’ll have to work your fingers to the bone to pay me alimony and child support.”
“Hey, don’t you dare leave!”
Charles reached out a brutish hand toward Kate, who turned to go inside as if her business was done.
“Look at this? You’re a hopeless piece of trash. You dare lay a hand on a woman?”
But his wrist was grabbed by the weirdo in the apron. He tried to get away, but the grip on his wrist only got stronger.
“Aaah! Let go of me?!”
“Hey. Peter here would love to deal with this trash himself.”
The weirdo, who referred to himself in the third person, looked at Vendia and asked.
“Don’t kill him. Don’t injure him too badly. We still have to collect child support every month.”
“Okay. Noted.”
As soon as he was given permission, Peter’s eyes gleamed as he laughed cruelly.
“Aaaaah!”
Charles’s screams echoed sweetly.
“That, that guy…”
Vendia clicked her tongue, watching Peter, who was flying around like a fish in water, beating Charles. The liveliness had returned to Peter’s previously haggard face. He wasn’t doing this for Kate; he was definitely doing this to relieve his own stress. Did housework stress him out that much?
“Ugh, p-please s-spare me…”
“I won’t kill you. You have to pay back the money, don’t you? For the rest of your life.”
Peter was merciless even at Charles’s pleas for mercy. He had a variety of ways to punish him. He would throw jabs, then a hook, then a front kick, and even a fancy spinning kick. He was truly wicked.
“Did Shasha really take down a guy like that with just one frying pan?”
Maybe Shasha was secretly a powerhouse. I should be nice to Shasha.
With that thought, Vendia turned around with a sense of relief.
“My Lord.”
She was about to go back into the mansion when a low-pitched voice stopped her.
“Huh?”
She turned her head to see Chris standing there with a gentle smile on his lips. As the quiet wind blew, his dark eyes held her image.
“Everything turned out just as you wanted, my Lord.”
