    Chapter 01

    “October 1, 20XX, 2:31 p.m. Ms. Im Yu-na has passed away.”

There were Im Yu-na’s mother, a doctor, and two nurses in the intensive care unit.

Her mother collapsed to the floor and began sobbing like a storm had broken loose.

“Even when this wretch is dying, she still has to stab me in the back like this!”

Im Jin-suk, Im Yu-na’s mother, showed not the slightest hint of grief over the loss of her daughter.

Despite the nurses trying to restrain her, the things she shouted as she raved like a madwoman were even more appalling.

“I’m going to be buried under debt! What am I supposed to do about my money?! Oh, God! Oh, God! Bring her back to life! I said bring that girl back!”

Jin-suk took her anger out on the innocent doctor.

But Im Yu-na, already a cold corpse, could no longer open her mouth or her eyes.

    ‘Tsk, tsk. Poor thing.’

A woman watched the scene and clicked her tongue sadly. Yet it seemed that no one in the intensive care unit was aware of her existence.

‘Sweet and gentle Yu-na. To suffer all her life only to end up like this. What a life in which she never even got to know happiness.’

The woman could only feel bitter toward a world where there wasn’t even a single person who understood what a pitiful life Yu-na had lived.

“Oh, God! What am I supposed to do now?! My money! Oh, God!”

Jin-suk wailed even louder, making the entire hospital ring with her cries.

The woman’s eyes narrowed as she looked at Jin-suk.

She had pushed her daughter into the entertainment industry for ten whole years simply because she had given birth to a pretty child, making her do all sorts of things. And now, standing before her daughter’s corpse, all she could do was cry about money.

    ‘What an utterly insane woman.’

‘Yes, Yu-na. Go now to a beautiful world. Because you’re an angel, you’ll be able to live happily in a place that is even more beautiful and filled with happiness…’

“W-Wait! Her—her pulse is starting again!”

    At that moment…

The woman felt a suffocating pressure in her chest, as though it were about to burst.

It was the first pain she had felt since dying.

For a long time, she had wandered through the afterlife like a drifting soul, as though swimming through the depths of the sea.

But now, a tenacious thread of life seemed to coil around her entire body, binding her tightly with a rope that made it impossible to breathe.

It was a pain that could only be known by someone who was alive—a terrible agony as though her flesh were being torn apart, a sensation as though her lungs were expanding like a balloon being filled with air.

Overwhelmed by the suffocating sensation of being on the verge of death, she suddenly remembered her final moments, when she had desperately struggled to stay alive.

    Then she shot upright.

    “Haa… haa…”

A dull, aching pain throbbed around her neck.

Warmth seeped into her cold body, as though melting the places that had been frozen solid.

    Her pupils moved.

    Her fingers and toes twitched.

“M-Ms. Im Yu-na! Her pulse had definitely stopped!”

The woman stared blankly at the doctor frantically checking her condition with hazy eyes.

    I am not Im Yu-na.

    “I-It’s a miracle!”

I died at the age of twenty-five.

And if I had lived, I would have been fifty by now…

    My name is Jeong Su-i.
