The Devil’s Whisper
The English textbook company Park Manager had introduced was not a large corporation like Sejin Construction. It was a small-to-medium-sized company with fewer than fifty employees, but the owner, who personally conducted the interview, was kind, and the company itself seemed nice.
Eun-chae wasn’t particularly thrilled that the position she had applied for was in customer support, which meant answering phone calls, but since most of the callers would be mothers asking about children’s educational materials, she didn’t think there would be as many difficult customers as there had been at the home-shopping company.
Most importantly, the female manager who would become her direct supervisor had such a warm, aunt-like impression that Eun-chae felt reassured.
“But I don’t speak English. Won’t that be a problem for the job?”
When Eun-chae carefully asked, the female manager burst into loud laughter.
“If that’s how you’re going to look at it, then shouldn’t I have gotten a perfect TOEIC score after working here for ten years? I can’t speak English either.”
Hearing that, Eun-chae felt even more relieved. At least it didn’t seem like she’d have to speak English on the phone.
“If you have questions about anything related to English, just ask the employees who plan the textbooks, so don’t worry too much.”
The interview atmosphere was 180 degrees different from the one she’d had with CEO Kwon Do-hyeok, and Eun-chae was touched by the difference.
That’s right. Not every boss in the world is bad. There are still plenty of good people.
Despite the ominous coincidence that morning, Eun-chae finished the interview without any problems and headed happily toward Hongdae.
On Friday night, when office workers poured into the streets shouting for freedom, Club ‘Ban’ in Hongdae was packed with people who had come to listen to indie bands.
With alcohol, music, and people all available in one place, Hongdae was a fun playground for young people worn down by their busy city lives.
When Eun-chae stepped onto the stage, her red skirt fluttering behind her, the crowd responded with cheers. The song hadn’t even started yet, but simply feeling the energy of the audience was enough to lift her spirits.
It was an excitement she could never feel when wearing a colorless suit, bowing her head, and knocking on the doors of some impossibly tall corporate building.
“Hello! We’re India Red.”
Her cheerful greeting was met with even louder voices from the crowd.
Just when she felt like all she had to do was get the engine running and take flight, a man entering the club caught Eun-chae’s attention.
He was dressed in designer clothes that had absolutely nothing to do with Hongdae, and his sharp eyes showed no sign that he was there to enjoy himself. He even ignored the gazes of the women around him with an arrogant air.
When their eyes met from a distance, Eun-chae instinctively looked away.
He had obviously come to confirm whether she was India Red’s ‘Su.’ Even his appearance that morning must have been reconnaissance for this very moment.
Persistent bastard. If I’m not her, then I’m not her. Why does he keep chasing me all the way here?!
Besides, this was Hongdae. Not his, but her home ground. No matter how wealthy a chaebol Do-hyeok was, he couldn’t have things his way here.
「Oh! From now on, you’re on holiday. A truly wonderful holiday.」
As soon as she began singing, Eun-chae’s confidence returned. This time, she didn’t avoid his gaze. Instead, she deliberately looked straight at Do-hyeok.
Everyone else was enjoying the music, but he was the only one standing there with his arms crossed and a scowl on his face.
He had already said he didn’t like her singing, and now she didn’t even like the way he listened to it.
「If you want me to smile at you, give me flowers. Very red roses.」
Eun-chae deliberately sang more seductively while staring directly at Do-hyeok.
Thanks to this song, red roses were the gift she received most often from her male fans.
In truth, she preferred food to flowers that she couldn’t eat, but she couldn’t exactly change the lyrics to ask for samgyeopsal instead of flowers.
「If you want me to kiss you, give me a ring. A ring that fits perfectly on my ring finger.」
When Do-hyeok’s expression didn’t change at all, Eun-chae’s pride began to suffer.
She had always lived believing that, at least when she was singing, she was the best.
She could tolerate being criticized during a job interview, but someone showing absolutely no reaction to her singing was genuinely insulting.
After the performance ended and she came down from the stage, the club manager handed her a business card.
“He says he’d like to meet you. What do you think?”
The manager knew that Eun-chae never met privately with male customers who came to watch her perform. But the credentials printed on the business card were so impressive that he thought it was too good an opportunity to simply ignore, so he had asked her anyway.
Eun-chae glared at Do-hyeok’s name printed on the card.
She had no idea why Kwon Do-hyeok wanted to meet India Red’s ‘Su,’ but his attitude during the performance had humiliated her.
How dare he listen to my singing with that completely emotionless expression?
Eun-chae answered out of pure stubbornness.
“I’ll meet him. Tell him to wait.”
Normally, the moment a performance ended, she would have wiped off her makeup and taken off the long, cumbersome red dress.
But today, she applied even heavier makeup instead.
“What are you planning to do?”
Dongwoo asked worriedly. Meeting a man who had shown interest after watching her perform was completely unlike her.
“You’re not trying to get a sponsor just because he’s the president of a big company, are you?”
“No. It’s not like that.”
If she’d had that kind of ambition, she wouldn’t have run away the moment she’d seen him during the interview.
She simply hated Kwon Do-hyeok’s arrogant attitude.
He acted as if he were the greatest person in the world, and it was Do-hyeok who kept provoking her while she was just minding her own business. It was almost as if he were picking a fight.
From Eun-chae’s perspective, she couldn’t just sit there and take it.
After finishing her look with rose-red lipstick, Eun-chae looked in the mirror one last time before putting on her sunglasses.
This was her home ground.
So she was absolutely going to land one solid punch.
When Eun-chae came back out, two women were approaching Do-hyeok, who was sitting alone, and trying to talk to him.
But whatever Do-hyeok said to them, the smiles on their faces instantly froze, and they turned around and walked away.
She didn’t even need to hear what he had said.
He probably acted arrogantly as if to say, ‘How dare you little things think you can approach me?’
After glaring at Do-hyeok’s straight back for a moment, Eun-chae took a short breath and approached him.
When she reached his side and lightly tapped the table with her hand, Do-hyeok turned his head.
The moment he saw her face, Do-hyeok gave a dry little laugh, as if amused by her effort to hide herself with makeup and sunglasses.
Eun-chae didn’t care. She held her chin high.
“Why did you ask to see me?”
“Is there any other reason a man would ask to see a woman?”
If an ordinary man had said it, it would have sounded like nothing more than a cheesy pickup line.
But coming from Kwon Do-hyeok, it sounded like some grand conspiracy.
The fact that he clearly suspected she was the woman he was looking for, yet didn’t even ask whether she was Lee Eun-chae, made her even more wary of him.
“I’m sorry, but I don’t feel any masculine attraction toward you at all.”
Eun-chae was quite pleased with herself for sounding so haughty.
Do-hyeok gave her a faint smile as though what she’d said were ridiculous.
“I doubt that.”
What’s he talking about? If I say I don’t, then I don’t!
“I have enough money to produce your album, too. So even if you don’t feel it, shouldn’t you pretend that you do?”
What the hell does he take me for?
“Even if I wanted to, you’re so unpleasant that I couldn’t pretend.”
Even as she said it, Eun-chae felt that the words were somewhat of a lie.
Kwon Do-hyeok was an attractive man even without his money.
It was like trying to insult Won Bin by calling him Okdongja just to land a punch.
From Do-hyeok’s perspective, he hadn’t fallen for her at first sight. His goal was to discover her relationship with his father, so being treated as an unattractive man was rather absurd.
“A woman who said the same thing eventually fell for me.”
That was the most sincere thing he had said all day.
There probably wasn’t a woman in the world who could resist him if he seriously pursued her.
He was a man who had been born with everything.
Perhaps the fact that he still wasn’t happy was the fairness God had given the world.
“I’m never going to be like that, so don’t be so arrogant.”
Eun-chae was sincere, too.
Even if he offered to spend billions of won producing her album, she would still hate him.
He was far too arrogant and narcissistic.
The two of them glared at each other as if they were holding opposite ends of a thread stretched to the point of snapping.
Each firmly believing that they were the one who was right.
In the midst of the tense standoff, the first to attack was Do-hyeok, who was skilled at shooting.
“Oh, right. Pass a message to Lee Eun-chae for me. Tell her I’m going to sue Seo Jinwoo’s hospital.”
Shocked, Eun-chae immediately forgot that she was supposed to be hiding her identity.
“That’s so underhanded!”
“That’s not something you can say to me. Lee Eun-chae could say it, but not you.”
Eun-chae bit her lip and glared at Do-hyeok.
She hated being cornered by him again, but if Do-hyeok really sued Jinwoo’s hospital, it would be a serious problem.
She had to stop it somehow.
But at the same time, she would rather die than beg Do-hyeok to let it go.
“If you’re willing to talk to Lee Eun-chae, tell her to call the number on the business card I gave you.”
Do-hyeok said it as though he were generously giving her a chance, then stood up.
But from his perspective, it was just bluffing.
If word got out that he was receiving psychiatric treatment, he would be in even greater trouble.
That was why he had deliberately gone to the hospital of Jinwoo, his college friend. If necessary, he could simply claim that he’d gone there to meet a friend.
In the end, it seemed this was going to become a contest over who could bluff better.
Do-hyeok always woke up at six in the morning and prepared for work.
He had left his family home and begun living alone as soon as he became an adult, so his mornings were monotonous.
He showered, got dressed, skipped breakfast, and went to work.
The 124-pyeong penthouse, which was quite spacious for one person, was merely a place for Do-hyeok to sleep.
It was a home with no sense of human warmth, but Do-hyeok had never once felt lonely there.
He was comfortable being alone.
As he tied his necktie, Do-hyeok suddenly let out a quiet laugh.
He had thought of her words out of nowhere.
She would never fall for him, even if she died, so he shouldn’t be arrogant.
Do-hyeok untied the necktie he had been putting on and chose another one.
His brow furrowed as he picked through his ties.
Just thinking about her words irritated him.
There was no way that could happen.
She was simply bluffing.
There was no woman in the world who wouldn’t succumb to the temptation of money.
And considering Chairman Kwon had bought her album, there might even be some kind of financial relationship between her and his father.
It was a little strange that she lived so poorly despite that, though.
Do-hyeok concluded that she was merely putting on a pointless display of pride and reached for the blue-toned tie he’d initially chosen.
In the end, she would be the one to come begging first.
All he had to do was wait.
He couldn’t even imagine losing to a woman like her—not his father, but someone like her.
Park Manager regularly reported Do-hyeok’s activities to Chairman Kwon.
It was something he had consistently done ever since he left the chairman’s office and became Do-hyeok’s secretary.
So Do-hyeok wasn’t entirely wrong to suspect him of being a spy.
But lately, there was one thing Park Manager had deliberately failed to report.
That was Do-hyeok’s visit to meet India Red’s ‘Su.’
With winter approaching, Do-hyeok’s engagement to Chairman Choi Geon’s daughter was practically a done deal, since the plan had already come directly from Chairman Kwon.
For that reason, Do-hyeok meeting another woman was obviously important information that should be reported.
But Park Manager left that part out when reporting to Chairman Kwon.
It was the first time in his thirty years as a secretary that he had deliberately omitted something from his report based on his own judgment.
“Is Do-hyeok seeing any women these days?”
Perhaps because the engagement had already been decided, Chairman Kwon himself brought up Do-hyeok’s relationship with women first.
Park Manager looked at Chairman Kwon with a moment of tension in his eyes.
“As far as I know, there aren’t any at the moment.”
Perhaps Chairman Kwon sensed the slight hesitation in Park Manager’s answer, because he stared sharply at his face.
Park Manager couldn’t immediately meet his eyes.
But perhaps Chairman Kwon simply couldn’t bring himself to suspect that Park Manager, who had been his loyal right-hand man for thirty years, would deceive him.
So instead of pressing the matter, he merely gave him a warning.
“His engagement is coming up soon, so keep a close eye on him and make sure nothing else comes out.”
Park Manager answered with a scratchy throat.
“Yes.”
Park Manager had shown Do-hyeok the album because he wanted Do-hyeok and Chairman Kwon to have a serious conversation with each other.
But despite his hopes, the relationship between the two remained that of a troubled father and son.
Whenever Eun-chae had a difficult problem, the first person she went to see was her brother-in-law, Jinwoo.
Perhaps because he was a psychiatrist, Jinwoo was very good at listening to people.
He didn’t yell at her like a father would, nor did he look down on her as her sister might.
Jinwoo was the only member of her family she could comfortably vent to.
Today, however, she had come to see Jinwoo for a different reason.
She had come to confess that she had pretended to be a doctor at his hospital.
Because of Do-hyeok’s threat, Eun-chae felt so guilty that she couldn’t simply sit still.
Jinwoo would undoubtedly be disappointed in her, and he might even get angry with her for the first time.
But she had to tell him first.
If she hid it from Jinwoo and tried to solve the problem herself, things would surely get worse.
She was good at causing trouble, but terrible at solving it.
“Doctor’s treating his last patient right now, so please wait just a little longer.”
A familiar-looking nurse said with a smile.
Eun-chae nodded with a gloomy expression, as if she had genuinely come to receive psychiatric treatment herself, then went to the sofa in the farthest corner, pulled her knees up, and hugged her legs.
The kind nurse even made her some cocoa and brought it over for her to drink, but Eun-chae didn’t touch it.
She simply stared out the window.
“Sorry to keep you waiting, sister-in-law.”
As always, Jinwoo greeted her warmly.
But Eun-chae stood awkwardly in front of him, unable to figure out how to begin.
Just by looking at her expression, Jinwoo sensed that something had happened and asked seriously,
“Is something wrong?”
“It’s not that something happened exactly… It’s that I did something.”
“Really? What did you do?”
Jinwoo didn’t seem all that surprised.
Eun-chae had never exactly lived like a model student who had never caused trouble.
Unable to look directly into Jinwoo’s eyes, Eun-chae squeezed her eyes shut and confessed.
“When that man named Kwon Do-hyeok came as one of your patients, I pretended to be a doctor. I’m really sorry!”
Jinwoo’s expression turned shocked.
It was something he could never have imagined.
But more unbelievable than Eun-chae pretending to be a doctor was the fact that Do-hyeok hadn’t lodged a single complaint despite what had happened.
Kwon Do-hyeok was absolutely not the type of person to let something like that slide.
“He found out that I learned he was a sex addict, and he said he’s going to sue you and the hospital! I’m really sorry!”
Eun-chae genuinely felt sorry as she said it, but Jinwoo could only stare at her in disbelief.
“Kwon Do-hyeok said he was a sex addict?”
The moment he said that, it was obvious that Do-hyeok had already known Eun-chae wasn’t a doctor.
That wasn’t the reason Do-hyeok had been receiving treatment.
“No. Do-hyeok deceived you, too.”
At Jinwoo’s words, Eun-chae’s mouth fell open in disbelief.
And he’s threatening to sue us after doing that? What a horrible bastard!
“I’ll call Do-hyeok and take care of it. Don’t worry too much, sister-in-law.”
Thinking that the first thing he needed to do was resolve the lawsuit Do-hyeok had mentioned, Jinwoo immediately called him.
Eun-chae clenched both fists, feeling as though she’d been scammed.
If she could, she wanted to countersue Do-hyeok too.
But she didn’t have the money for that, and legally speaking, unfortunately, she was the one at a disadvantage.
Impersonating a doctor was a crime.
Lying about being a sex addict was merely being a jerk.
“It’s me. I want to meet you. Can you make some time?”
[Maybe in a month.]
Jinwoo was already accustomed to Do-hyeok’s pretentious way of speaking as if he were too important to have time for anyone.
“Let’s meet today. Because of you, my sister-in-law might develop insomnia.”
[Ah! Did she confess?]
Jinwoo’s lips pressed into a thin line at Do-hyeok’s words.
He was a little angry now.
After a moment, he spoke again.
“I think there are things we need to work out through conversation, so make some time and come. Otherwise, I won’t be able to treat you anymore.”
[Ha. Coming on strong, Seo Jinwoo.]
“Yes, because she’s my sister-in-law. I can’t do anything if you bother someone else, but if you make my sister-in-law suffer, I won’t just sit back and watch.”
Eun-chae clasped her hands together, deeply moved by Jinwoo’s unconditional support.
As expected, her brother-in-law was the only person she could rely on.
It took Do-hyeok about an hour to arrive at the bar Jinwoo had mentioned.
Apparently disliking the place, which was surrounded by cheap orange fabric, Do-hyeok stood outside the tent-like street bar for nearly a minute even after arriving.
Unable to stand it any longer, Eun-chae shouted,
“You’re not going to die! Come inside!”
Only then did Do-hyeok finally step inside.
Watching him, Jinwoo felt a strange sense of danger.
Do-hyeok wasn’t exactly the type of person who listened to other people.
Still, this gathering had been arranged to help the two people, whose relationship had become stained with threats of lawsuits, reach some kind of settlement.
So Jinwoo smiled amicably.
“It seems there’s been a misunderstanding between the two of you, so have a drink and talk it out honestly.”
“There was no misunderstanding. Your sister-in-law is really good at lying. She should become an actress.”
Do-hyeok had barely arrived before he started picking at her again.
Eun-chae glared at him.
“Be careful. When I get drunk, I have a habit of hitting people I don’t like.”
Do-hyeok gave a dry laugh at her warning.
“If you hit me, three generations of your family will suffer.”
Unable to beat him verbally, Eun-chae raised her chopsticks.
Jinwoo hurriedly stopped her.
“I didn’t call Do-hyeok here so you two could fight. Pretending to be a doctor was your fault, sister-in-law. If it had been another patient, you could have really hurt them.”
“Does that mean I’m thick-skinned enough that I can’t possibly get hurt?”
The guy was threatening her with a lawsuit while claiming he was hurt!
“If you apologize first, Do-hyeok won’t pursue the matter any further.”
Jinwoo patted Eun-chae’s shoulder as though he completely understood how she felt.
Do-hyeok’s gaze fell on Jinwoo’s hand resting on her shoulder.
His eyes narrowed slightly, as if he didn’t like Jinwoo’s familiar physical contact with Eun-chae.
“Then write me a statement. I can’t trust you otherwise.”
From Do-hyeok’s perspective, whether he received an apology or not hardly mattered.
What mattered far more was not the fact that Eun-chae had pretended to be a doctor.
It was what kind of relationship India Red’s ‘Su’ had with his father and how he could make use of it.
If that hadn’t mattered, he wouldn’t have been sitting inside this shabby street bar in the first place.
He needed Lee Eun-chae as a bullet aimed at his father.
But he still hadn’t accurately identified Eun-chae’s true identity.
He needed to determine the firepower first.
Was she an unexploded shell, or was she a nuclear bomb?
Either way, he needed to find out.
“Fine. I’ll write it. It’s just a statement.”
When Do-hyeok readily agreed, both Eun-chae and Jinwoo were surprised.
He wasn’t the kind of man who was usually this easy to deal with.
Rrrrrrrrr—. Rrrrrrrrr—.
Just then, Jinwoo’s phone rang.
It was a call from Eun-seo, his wife, that he absolutely couldn’t ignore.
Jinwoo awkwardly stood up and warned them,
“Then I’ll answer the phone and come back, so the two of you work out an agreement properly and write it down. Don’t fight!”
Eun-chae followed Jinwoo’s back with displeasure in her eyes.
Having him beside her had made her feel secure.
“You look like a duckling that lost its mother. Wasn’t Seo Jinwoo your sister’s husband?”
Eun-chae glared at Do-hyeok.
It was true, but coming from him, it didn’t sound innocent at all.
Do-hyeok had already taken out a sheet of paper and was writing the word ‘Contract’ across the top.
Huh?
A contract, not a statement?
“Why are you writing ‘contract’ when we’re not signing a house lease?”
“I don’t trust what you say either.”
“What did I do?!”
Do-hyeok merely shifted his eyes toward her.
The full weight of his presence was concentrated in that gaze, making Eun-chae flinch.
“You’re not actually sorry either.”
That was true.
Eun-chae didn’t feel sorry toward Do-hyeok at all.
“And I’m pretty sure you’ll fall for me eventually.”
This guy! Still?!
“Even if you were the only man left in the world, I still wouldn’t like you!”
“So if you keep your word until the end, I’ll apologize.”
What?
Was he serious?
Of everything Kwon Do-hyeok had said to her so far, this was by far the most tempting.
If she could hear this man apologize, it would be incredibly satisfying.
“If you want something bigger, I can give you that, too.”
But the more he talked, the more Eun-chae felt like she was smelling something suspicious.
“Why aren’t you talking about the lawsuit and only saying weird things?”
Seeing how wary she was, Do-hyeok held out his fountain pen and smiled.
“I need India Red’s ‘Su.’ But even if I asked you for help, you wouldn’t do it. So let’s make a contract. Depending on the result of the contract, either I’ll do what you say, or you’ll do what I say. That’s not too bad for you, is it? All you have to do is keep your word until the end.”
Now Eun-chae was curious why he was so obsessed with India Red’s ‘Su.’
She genuinely couldn’t understand it.
“What do you need to ask India Red’s ‘Su’ to do?”
“If I tell you, you’ll have to do it no matter what. Do you still want to hear it?”
Eun-chae recoiled in disgust.
“Forget it. I don’t want to get involved with you. Don’t tell me.”
Apparently not wanting to ask her for a favor either, Do-hyeok waved the fountain pen.
“So are you signing or not?”
Eun-chae looked back and forth between Do-hyeok’s face and the contract.
She really wanted to see Do-hyeok apologize and say, ‘I’m sorry for acting cocky.’
But she couldn’t sign some dangerous contract just to see that once.
These days, you could get yourself into serious trouble by signing things recklessly in this financial society.
“If you don’t sign, I’ll sue Seo Jinwoo.”
Threats were apparently part of Do-hyeok’s everyday life.
Eun-chae exploded.
“You underhanded bastard!”
She snatched the fountain pen from Do-hyeok’s hand.
According to what Do-hyeok had said, she had no choice but to sign.
And the only way to protect Jinwoo’s hospital and get an apology from the irritating Kwon Do-hyeok was to keep her word until the very end.
Eun-chae scribbled her signature and threw the fountain pen back in front of Do-hyeok.
“Happy now?! So don’t even mention the ‘s’ in ‘sue’ ever again!”
Do-hyeok picked up the contract, satisfied that things had gone according to his wishes.
First, he would identify the bullet perfectly.
Then he would figure out how to use it.
A month was more than enough time to prepare to fire.
Do-hyeok had not the slightest doubt that everything would proceed exactly as he intended.
“Then the period is one month from now. Starting tomorrow, come to my house for work.”
At the words ‘come to my house for work,’ Eun-chae stared at him as if he were speaking nonsense.
“Why would I go to your house for work?”
“It’s all written in the contract.”
Only then did Eun-chae snatch the contract from Do-hyeok and read it carefully.
She should have done this before signing it, but she was only checking now.
<For the next month, Lee Eun-chae will work as Kwon Do-hyeok’s helper at his home. If, after one month, Kwon Do-hyeok, the employer, still dislikes Lee Eun-chae, he will follow Lee Eun-chae’s wishes. Otherwise, Lee Eun-chae will follow Kwon Do-hyeok’s wishes.>
The latter part was clearly what Do-hyeok had said.
But the first part was ridiculous.
“Why do I have to be your housekeeper?”
The reason was that Do-hyeok thought he needed to observe her up close to determine her relationship with his father.
But he simply closed the cap of his fountain pen and answered casually,
“It’s convenient. We won’t have to meet separately.”
That didn’t mean he could just turn her into a housekeeper whenever he wanted!
I’m a human being, not an avatar!
“I’ll be getting the result from the company Park Manager introduced me to soon! I have to start working there!”
“Don’t worry. You’ll be rejected 100 percent.”
Eun-chae trembled so hard that it seemed as if the contract itself might tear.
She genuinely wanted to hear this man’s apology.
She felt as though she could do anything just to hear him say, ‘I’m sorry for acting cocky.’
“Then give me three million won upfront! Otherwise, I’m absolutely not doing it!”
It was now or never.
Since Do-hyeok had arbitrarily decided to make her his housekeeper, Eun-chae arbitrarily decided her own salary.
Three million won was probably quite high for a month’s salary as a housekeeper, but she desperately needed that amount of money right now.
So she threw out the demand.
“Fine. But you know that if you take the money first, you won’t be able to quit halfway even if you want to, right?”
When Do-hyeok agreed to give her the money so easily, Eun-chae felt strangely deflated.
The money she had been unable to obtain no matter how desperately she struggled was nothing more than pocket change that Do-hyeok could casually throw at her.
For some reason, that made her angry.
At this moment, she hated Do-hyeok even more than the bald manager who was human garbage and the female team leader who had thrown away her conscience.
“You two made up while I was gone? You’re not fighting.”
Jinwoo returned after finishing his phone call and smiled in relief when he saw the two of them sitting quietly.
Do-hyeok snatched the contract from Eun-chae’s hands and shamelessly declared that everything had been settled.
Eun-chae was left speechless, feeling as though she’d been tricked into signing a fraudulent contract.
It was obviously a contract she should have won.
So why did she feel as though she’d been the one who got played?
That night, Eun-chae couldn’t fall asleep easily because of the scam-like contract.
She wondered if she should tell her brother-in-law the whole truth even now and ask for his advice.
But she didn’t want to be branded as her troublemaker brother-in-law’s troublesome sister-in-law anymore.
And if she did this job, she could solve the three-million-won problem immediately.
That made it impossible for her to back out easily.
Fine. All I have to do is keep my word anyway.
There was absolutely no chance that she would ever fall for Kwon Do-hyeok.
There was no way she could like such an arrogant, condescending man.
With that thought firmly in mind, Eun-chae immediately fell asleep.
She had absolutely no plan for how she would manage the housekeeper job she’d never imagined herself doing, starting tomorrow.
