    Chapter 20

After finishing the call with Suyeon, Hana went up to the law firm and was heading to her office when she ran into Hyewon, who was running toward her.

“**Lawyer! Why are you coming now!**”

    “**Is something wrong?**”

Hana asked with a puzzled look.

    Hyewon nodded excitedly.

“**Something huge has come for you, Lawyer.**”

Hana tilted her head and tried to enter her office, but Hyewon stopped her again.

    “**Not there.**”

    “**Huh?**”

“**You can’t go there. It’s over there, over there.**”

Hyewon pointed to a small break room with a pantry.

Hana didn’t know what was there, but she felt a creeping sense of unease.

She tightened her brows and walked toward the break room.

    Just then, her phone vibrated.

The caller was Jeonghan, whom Hana had been avoiding for several days. She answered without stopping.

    “Hello.”

    [**Did you get it well?**]

That one line revealed who had sent her the delivery.

“**Something came for me? Did you send it, Sunbae?**”

[**Looks like it arrived. Do you like it?**]

“**I haven’t seen it yet, but I feel uneasy.**”

Hana turned the corner and arrived in front of the break room. She was shocked at what she saw.

    “**All of this……**”

The lavish spread reminded her of a buffet.

[**You have a lot of work, so you shouldn’t lose energy.**]

“**When did I ever say I had a lot of work……**”

[**You’re busy, that’s why you didn’t meet me?**]

    “**That’s……**”

Hana had no words. She suddenly remembered the call she had with him that morning.

    [**Let’s do it today.**]

    “**Do what?**”

    [**Let’s have lunch together.**]

    “**Ah, lunch……. I’m busy.**”

[**Aren’t you supposed to tempt me?**]

    “**I will.**”

    [**You’re too slow.**]

    “**I said I will.**”

    [**So, when?**]

    After preparing properly.

She avoided giving a clear answer and changed the subject.

“**Anyway, I’m too busy to eat today. Let’s have lunch another day.**”

He stayed silent for a moment, then asked gently.

[**Should I send you a lunch box?**]

    “**A lunch box?**”

[**You said you don’t have time to eat.**]

    “**I can buy it myself……**”

[**Don’t eat sandwiches. What if you get a nosebleed again?**]

Jeonghan’s voice sounded soft and caring. Hana felt her ears heat up at his concern for her health.

“**Are you worrying about me now?**”

It wasn’t unpleasant that Jeonghan himself was concerned.

    [**Hehe, you could say that.**]

Could have guessed it then! He wasn’t truly worried; he was planning to mess with her.

    [**So, do you like it?**]

She gritted her teeth and glared at the phone.

    “**I’ll look at it later.**”

    [**Exactly what you wanted.**]

She blew air through her forehead.

    “**Cancel the meeting.**”

[**Did Manager Choi pick the wrong menu?**]

Jeonghan pretended not to know why she was angry, even though he did.

    “**No, what is all this?**”

From behind, Yoon’s voice was heard.

“**This food was delivered for Lawyer Kang, sir.**”

Instead of Hana, Hyewon answered excitedly.

    “**Who sent it?**”

    “**I did! I ordered it.**”

Hana quickly replied before Hyewon could speak.

    “**Why, Kangbyeon?**”

    Yoon looked puzzled.

“**For the law firm staff who are too busy to go eat……**”

A flimsy excuse, but Yoon was pleased.

    “**That’s a thoughtful idea.**”

Hyewon smiled meaningfully at Hana. She had heard Hana’s conversation earlier.

“**Instead of just standing there, call the staff left in the office.**”

Hana signaled Hyewon with her eyes.

    “**Me?**”

Hana asked with a pleading look.

    “**Okay, I’ll go.**”

Hyewon happily went to call the people.

Hana secretly breathed a sigh of relief. If Hyewon said anything silly to Director Yoon, it would be troublesome.

Thanks to Jeonghan, the overworked law firm staff were able to enjoy a delicious meal.

Time passed, and it was almost time to leave work.

Hana took her eyes off the documents and stretched. For a busy lawyer, leaving work on time was like a fantasy.

Her eyes were dizzy from staring at too many letters.

She put down her pen, leaned back, and pressed between her brows.

Her phone vibrated on the desk.

Hana straightened up and picked up the phone, which showed Jeonghan’s name.

    “**I’m busy.**”

[**Really? Good. I’ll send a lunch box.**]

    “**Wait!**”

    She called him urgently.

[**Why? Don’t like the lunch box?**]

Recalling the earlier incident, Hana shivered.

“**You’re determined to feed me, aren’t you.**”

[**I can’t have Kang Hana sick.**]

    “**Unbelievable.**”

[**I’ll be there in front of you in 10 minutes.**]

She looked at the clock on her desk.

    [**Eat. Come out.**]

Hana held her forehead with her hand, feeling conflicted. She wasn’t ready to meet Jeonghan yet.

Her eyes wandered to the “Art of Seduction” book she hadn’t opened yet.

But she didn’t want to repeat the terrible experience from earlier.

    “**Okay.**”

[**I knew you’d come this time.**]

She muttered “Clever” quietly and hung up. But her hands worked surprisingly fast, fixing her makeup and hair.

Hana reapplied lipstick, pressing and rolling her lips repeatedly.

    “**This should be enough.**”

She was nervous because he would arrive in 10 minutes. Then suddenly, there was a knock.

    “**Yes.**”

    Investigator Hyewon peeked in.

“**Lawyer, Ji Suyeon wants to meet you.**”

Hana was surprised. Suyeon, whom she had spoken to earlier, had come.

    “**Now?**”

    “**Yes.**”

Hana checked the time and looked puzzled.

    “**Let her in.**”

She closed the documents and waited for Suyeon.

Suyeon entered awkwardly, looking thinner than at the time of her divorce.

“**Hello, Lawyer. Am I disturbing you?**”

    “**No. Please sit.**”

They sat facing each other across the desk.

Suyeon hesitated and shyly handed a shopping bag.

“**These are macarons. I made them myself. I’m not sure if they taste good.**”

    “**You made macarons?**”

Hana, who didn’t know much about cooking, found it amazing that Suyeon could make them herself.

“**I learned before I got married.**”

    “**Really!**”

“**After the divorce, I was thinking about what to do and remembered this, so I started again.**”

“**Amazing. I’ll enjoy them. Thank you.**”

Hana smiled brightly, making Suyeon look shy.

“**It’s nice to see you doing well.**”

    Suyeon’s face darkened slightly.

    “**Why? Is something wrong?**”

Hana asked carefully. Suyeon shook her head. There was nothing wrong. Then she asked about Hana.

    “**These days…… nothing unusual, right?**”

    “**There is, but……**”

    Suyeon’s face suddenly went pale.

    “**Is something wrong?**”

Hana waved her hand and smiled.

“**It’s just personal. Why are you so surprised?**”

Seeing Suyeon so anxious, Hana thought something was strange.

    “**Are you feeling unwell?**”

Then Hana’s phone vibrated loudly on the desk. Both looked at it.

    “**Excuse me for a moment.**”

    Hana read Jeonghan’s message:

    * **Come to the basement 1st floor.**

    * **I’m in a meeting with a client. Wait a moment.**

She replied quickly and put her phone down.

Unknowingly, a small smile appeared on her lips.

    Suyeon noticed and stood up.

“**Did I take too much of your time? I’ll go.**”

“**No, it’s okay. We can talk more.**”

“**I have something else to do. I just thought of you while passing by.**”

    “**Really?**”

    “**Yes. Work comfortably.**”

    Suyeon bowed and backed away.

    “**I feel bad for this.**”

“**You came without notice. No, don’t leave, Lawyer. Just stay.**”

As Hana turned, Suyeon quickly raised her hands to stop her.

In an instant, Suyeon was gone.

Hana looked at the closed door and the shopping bag on the desk.

Careful and introverted Suyeon wouldn’t come without a reason……

Hana felt uneasy but thought no more. She had to go meet Jeonghan waiting in the underground parking lot.
